Overview
Kisspeptins are peptides encoded by the KISS1 gene and processed from a common precursor. They act as ligands of the kisspeptin receptor, KISS1R, also known as GPR54.
Research context
Kisspeptin signalling is a key upstream regulator of gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons. It is widely used in research on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and the neuroendocrine control of reproduction.
